GENERAL
Installation
should be carried out in accordance with the recommendations detailed
in British Standard Code of Practice for installation of Textile Floorcoverings
BS5325: 1983 (or any revision of this standard). It is also recommended
that installation should be in accordance with The Contract Flooring
Association Manual for installation of Textile Floorcoverings (October
1989).
If surface tackifiers or other adhesives are to be used, the adhesive
manufacturer's guidelines with reference to the Control of Substances
Hazardous to Health (COSHH) regulations and Section 6 of the Health
and Safety at Work Act 1974 (as amended by the Consumer Protection Act
1987) should be consulted.

FLOOR
PREPARATION
The floor must be clean, level, dry and free from dust and grease. All
subfloors shall be prepared in accordance with BS8203 to surface regularity
SRI (3mm to 3 metres). Solid floors should be constructed with effective
damp proof membrane to prevent the possibility of the installation being
impaired by moisture or water vapour. All traces of previous Floorcoverings
and old adhesive must be removed and if necessary the surface should
be treated with smoothing underlayment.
CONCRETE FLOORS
New concrete floors must be fully cured and sealed. They should be tested
for moisture using a hygrometer and relative humidity should not exceed
75%. Old floors need to be smooth and level. Resealing is recommended
where dusting is evident.
TIMBER FLOORS
Existing finishes should be removed and all surfaces should be level
and sound. Loose or uneven boards will affect the carpet performance.
Uneven floors should be covered with 6mm plywood nailed or stapled at
close regular intervals.
METAL RAISED ACCESS FLOORS
Take care not to scratch or damage metal surfaced floor panels. Do not
lay onto damaged panels. It is essential that the tackifier is applied
as directed and that the correct cure time is allowed so that all moisture
has evaporated.
Pile
Lay
The direction of pile lay can be checked on the surface of cut piles,
and is present but not as obvious on loop pile. The back of each tile
is marked by an arrow along the line of the pile. It is recommended
that tiles are laid with one consistent pile direction. Where site conditions
permit the recommended pile direction is away from the predominant light
source.
Batches
Different batches of the same colour must not be mixed as minor changes
within commercial tolerance in both texture and colour will result in
appearance differences.
Pile Height
Differences in pile height between batches or qualities which have to
be fitted together can be adjusted by using a PVC diminishing strip
(GRADUS type BU 800 or 200 as applicable).
Stairs
Tiles must be stuck down and used in conjunction with a suitable nosing,
(GRADUS produce a suitable range).
